Here at Gardner school, we have started recognizing kids and volunteers for their great attitudes and great grades by choosing a student of the week and a volunteer of the month
First grade student, Payton Salas is our student of the week, and she deserves to be! According to Payton’s teacher, Ms. Jody, Payton is a very bright girl who excels in all academic areas. Payton is like a little sponge that soaks up everything she is taught! She has always been well behaved and arrives at school ready to learn. Payton is a great reader and is always sure to remember all of the reading rules she has learned so far.
Ms. Jody added, Payton loves to write and always double checks her work with a rubric or a word list to make sure it is correct. Math is Payton’s strength and she attempts 2nd grade math problems and is often correct!
“I could not ask for a better student,” Ms. Jody said.
We don’t just want to recognize Payton for her greatness in academics; but also, to praise her for being herself! Payton’s favorite color is pink, she loves ice cream (who doesn’t?), and her favorite subject is math!
This month Gardner School is honoring, Margaret (Muffin) Hecht as our volunteer of the month. Margaret is a very busy woman. She is a mother, a grandmother, a yoga teacher, a veterinarian, an active member of the Volunteers for Community. She runs the Book-Mobile, and she even does acupuncture on animals to relieve their pain!
Margaret does all that and still makes time to volunteer at our school. Margaret is part of the People Actively Listening to Students (P.A.L.S) program at Gardner school. She reads with the kids weekly and makes new friends. Margaret plans to become a volunteer aide at our school library.
“Margaret, and the many volunteers like her, make Gardner School special. Thank you for your help. You help make our world go round,” Principal Pam Levie said.
On Monday, January 11th students were honored with the awards of Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance. The following students were honored for perfect attendance for the whole semester: Elyssa Allen, Nino Cisneros, Sofia Crosson, Adam Pacheco, and Harmonee Valdez. These students received a necklace and a pencil for making sure to be at school each day.
