Student Absence Requirements

Important Notification of Student Absence Requirements
Dear Parents/Guardians:
A general rule of thumb is to always report your child’s (children’s) absences to the school secretary immediately, if possible. If not possible to do so immediately, then to report said absence within a 48 hour time frame. Failure to do so will result in the student absence reported as being an unexcused absence.
We are having a problem with this request and thus we are reminding you to report absences right away. Too many students are at or are nearing the habitually truant status which will mean a visit to the Truancy Court. Habitual Truant means that a child has amassed 4 unexcused absences in 1 month or a cumulative total of 10 unexcused absences in 1 year.
Our district experiences an overabundance of both excused and unexcused absences. There is simply no excuse for kids being absent as much as some have been. Our children need to attend school on a daily basis for a multitude of reasons. I ask that you please consider attendance and attendance requirements seriously. If not, then you could soon be violating state law, of which we do not condone and hope never occurs. No child, that I am aware of, would prefer the label of habitual truant and the necessity of attending court to resolve his/her attendance issues.

Respectfully,

Winter sports have begun. Please get out there and support our wrestlers and basketball players of all schools and all levels of play. I know the kids would appreciate your attendance and your cheers.
If you are aware of students of families who are in need of winter or other clothing items please let them know to see their school’s guidance counselor or secretary to arrange a visit to the School District clothing bank. Let’s ensure that all kids are warm and clothed properly. We are always accepting donations of clothes that are clean and in good shape. I thank you in advance for your generosity.
