The Huerfano RE-1 District Office is located in the historic 1936 Washington Elementary School at 201 East Fifth Street, Walsenburg, Colorado, 81089.

Huerfano RE-1 administrative offices are found on the first floor. The phone number is (719) 738-1520. The Fax Number is (719) 738-3148.

Office Hours: Monday-Thursday 7:30 A.M - 4:00 P.M.

Summer Office Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.

The office is closed for Fall Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break, per the approved district calendar. The office will also be closed on snow days and other school closure days as well as follow delay and early release schedules.

Re: Superintendent and Change.org Petition

I write to you on behalf of the Huerfano School District Board of Education. The Board is aware of a Change.org petition calling for the removal of Superintendent Robert Howard based on alleged misconduct. While the Board recognizes and agrees that individuals have First Amendment rights, the type of statements in the Change.org petition are careless and unsupported by facts. There is no place in public education for such false and libelous rhetoric.

The Board wants the community to know that Mr. Howard has not engaged in the misconduct falsely alleged and that it continues to support him as the District’s Superintendent.
