Educational Specifications for Construction
To ensure that all new facilities are designed to support the educational program, the superintendent shall provide for the development of detailed educational specifications to apply to the design and construction of new buildings. Upon Board consideration and approval, the specifications will be presented to the architect.
The Board expects the educational specifications to serve two purposes: (1) to clarify and consolidate the thinking of the administration, the Board, and the community on the needs, desires, and objectives of the educational program to be conducted within the proposed new building; and (2) to organize this information in a manner that can be easily and clearly interpreted by the architect.
In developing specifications, the superintendent may solicit input from citizens’ committees, professional staff, support staff, students and community organizations.
The specifications may include, but not be limited to:
A plan regarding the school’s organization and an estimated enrollment in the proposed building.
A description of the students to be served.
A description of the proposed curriculum and the teaching methods and techniques to be employed.
A schedule of space requirements, including proposed locations of various spaces.
A desired layout of special areas and the equipment needed for such areas.
An outline of mechanical features and other special finishes which are desired.
Pertinent budget information and other related factors.
