Supplemental Employment of Retired Staff Members
Any staff member or former staff member who has completed ten or more years of continuous employment with the district and is receiving or is eligible to receive retirement benefits from PERA based on the age and years of service is eligible for supplemental 110 day or 720 hour per calendar year employment as outlined in this policy.
Employees who are not receiving a PERA retirement payment but who wish to participate in this program must submit a letter of resignation and request a supplementary contract at least 30 days prior to the date of anticipated retirement.
Compensation for employees approved for this program shall be as negotiated between the district and the employee; provided however, that the total daily salary expense to the district for such employee may not exceed the employee’s daily salary on the last day the employee worked for the district prior to retirement. No employment agreement under this program shall exceed the employment limitations set forth in Title 22, Article 64, Section 111, Colorado Revised Statutes, in effect on the date of adoption of this policy and as thereafter amended. Any such employment may also be interrupted or terminated as required by PERA rules. A copy of the employee’s supplemental contract may be provided to PERA upon PERA’s request.
For purposes of this policy, an employee’s daily salary on the last day of work shall be determined by dividing the employee’s salary for the 12 month period ending on the date of the employee’s retirement by the number of days during that 12 month period that the employee worked for the district. Any vacation days, sick days, personal leave days, sabbatical days or other leave shall be considered as days worked for the district.
Employees in this program shall not receive any fringe benefits except as set forth in paragraph 6 below. The employee’s salary shall be subject to employer PERA contributions, which shall be paid by the district in accordance with state law and PERA rules.
Licensed supplemental contract participants shall be entitled to professional leave in accordance with district policy. Other than these leaves, all supplemental contract participants shall be paid only for actual time worked in their assigned position(s).
