Arrangements for Substitutes
The superintendent shall attempt to find qualified substitutes for all levels of instruction. A list of these qualified persons shall be presented to each building principal.
Any teacher upon discovering that he or she will not be able to be present for any reason whatsoever shall notify the building principal or designee who shall call the best qualified substitute. Pay will be as follows (adjusted every September 1 to the nearest dollar):
Licensed substitute (holds a valid teaching license) shall be .0034 times the teacher base.
Degreed substitute (holds a BA or MA degree but not a valid teaching license) shall be .0028 times the teacher base.
Non-degreed substitute (holds no degree) shall be .0022 times the teacher base.
Long-term licensed substitutes shall receive $135 per day beginning on the 11th consecutive day for the same teacher and only if the absence is due to the same condition during which the long-term substitute duties would include those expected of the regular teacher.
The building principal shall make a written report of all substitute employment to the administration office the first week of each month, reporting the dates the substitutes worked for the prior months.
An aide may substitute only in the case of an emergency and only in the classrooms where he or she is an aide for a period not to exceed five consecutive days.
