The Board recognizes that the first-hand learning experiences provided by field trips are most effective and worthwhile means of learning. It is the desire of the Board to encourage field trips as part of and directly related to the total school program.
Specific guidelines and appropriate administrative procedures shall be developed to screen, approve and evaluate trips and to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken for the safety of the participants. These guidelines and procedures shall assure that all out-of-town trips have the approval of the principal and, as required, of the Board.
Prior permission of the Board must be obtained for overnight trips. CHSAA sponsored district or state competitions are exempt from this requirement. The Board also must approve in advance any trip involving a distance of more than 175 miles one way.
