Mask Recommendation update – 9/10/2021

Comments Off on Mask Recommendation update – 9/10/2021

9/10/21

To:  All families of students in the Huerfano Re-1 School District and school based employees

Short of issuing a mask mandate, I urge you to send your child to school each day with a mask to wear. Staff members are also being urged to wear masks on a daily basis.

If you do not have masks for your child, we have them available in the school offices and at temperature check in stations.

Due to our most recent Covid “outbreak” determination at John Mall HS and increasing numbers of positive cases in our community, it is wise to try to prevent any further spread of positive cases and attempt to avoid any further “outbreaks” at either John Mall HS or Peakview Elementary. We all need to do our best to keep your children in the in-person learning mode, athletics and extracurricular activities.

I understand we have families on each end and in the middle of the mask wearing and vaccination debate. I can also appreciate personal choice. I understand nothing is guaranteed to prevent one from becoming Covid positive yet we can still all opt in to try to minimize the risks to our students, teachers and community members by practicing the recommended mitigations from the CDC and local health department:

  1. Get vaccinated
  2. Get tested at school or other testing sites in town
  3. Wear masks in indoor areas of congregate settings
  4. If quarantined: please follow quarantine guidelines and quarantine
  5. Social Distance
  6. Wash hands thoroughly and often
  7. Stay home if you are ill
  8. Other

Thank you for understanding and making the effort to help minimize the risk of exposure and positive results.

Respectfully,

Michael J Moore/SuperintendentMask Recommendation Update Letter - 9/10/2021 Mask recommendation 9-10-21

Peakview Remote Learning Option available

Comments Off on Peakview Remote Learning Option available

UPDATE:  8/31/2021:  Applications are now closed for new enrollment into our online program at this time.

Peakview School is planning on a return to full-time, in-person learning for the 2021-22 school year. We recognize that some families might still prefer that their child be given an option to complete their learning virtually. To meet this preference, Peakview School will be offering a full-time, remote learning option for students in the 2021-22 school year. Please see the following for additional information about the remote learning option. In order to be considered for full-time remote learning, an application will need to be submitted for review. Note: Completion of an application does not guarantee acceptance into the full-time, remote learning option.

UPDATE:  8/31/2021:  Applications are now closed for new enrollment into our online program at this time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What curriculum will be utilized in the full-time, remote learning?
A: The remote-only curriculum will be delivered by the Edgenuity online courseware. The curriculum is self-paced. Each core class will be assigned a certified instructor through the Edgenuity program. Each instructor will deliver the instruction and then assign assignments for independent work by the student. A tab will be available 24/7 for help with assignments.

Q: How will I get assistance from my instructors?
A: Virtual instructors can re-teach concepts, provide helpful feedback, and connect with families to give updates on student progress and performance. The virtual instructors will work in tandem with the Peakview Remote Proctor to ensure program and student success. Additionally, students may also access after-school tutoring from Peakview teachers if added support is needed and the teacher agrees. Note: the virtual Edgenuity lessons will not necessarily match the in-person lessons so the teacher’s ability to support may be limited.

Q: What will the remote-only schedule look like?
A: The online environment allows for some flexibility so that students are able to attend any time during the day or night. Students will be required to check in with the Peakview Remote Proctor regularly to review student’s progress.

Q: Is attendance required?
A: Yes. Regular student attendance is required by law, including for remote-only students. Remote-only students will follow all guidelines as outlined in the Peakview Handbook. Peakview students must be prepared to spend 25-30 hours each week on their course work to complete their scheduled classes each semester.

Q: Will I be allowed to take elective classes at the school?
A: Remote-only students will be allowed to take elective classes on the Peakview campus. (In-person attendance for these elective classes is required.)

Q: Will I be allowed to participate in athletics/clubs/extracurricular activities such as dances?
A: Yes. Remote-only students can participate in extracurricular activities. Remote-only students will still follow all academic rules as outlined in the Peakview Handbook. Eligibility and other provisions will be enforced.

Q: What if I start the school year as a remote-only student but find that the virtual learning environment is not for me?
A: Students will be allowed to switch from remote-only to in-person learning at the end of the semester. Prior to the switch, the student and parent/guardian will be required to meet with the Remote Proctor and Administration.

To be considered for the Remote-Only learning option for the 2021-22 school year, an application must be submitted for review.

Completion of an application does not guarantee acceptance into the full-time, remote learning option.
