Tomorrow, August 9, 2023 is the first official day to announce a call for candidates for School Board Directors for the November 7, 2023 elections.

To be a candidate you must be a registered voter for our district for 12 consecutive months and never been convicted of an offense against a child.

If you are interested in serving our students and community by being on the school board, you can start obtaining petitions tomorrow Wednesday August 9th at 201 E 5th Street. Please call to[]()make an appointment 719-738-1520 x 2000 or 719-695-0091. You will need to bring your photo ID to verify voter registration.

Call for candidates for School Board

Due to recent discovery of possible structural concerns at JMHS building, the 1st day of school for all students has changed. All K-12 students will return on Monday August 14th. If we have to move grades 9-12 , opening day could be as late as Wednesday, August 16th.

Re: Opening day for all students has been delayed

Dear Parents, guardians and students:

Due to very recent structural concerns at JMHS (Walsenburg Jr. Sr. High) we must delay the start of school until Monday, August 14th for all students k-12. I expect to receive the structural engineers report late Thursday or during the day on Friday. We anticipate the starting date to be Monday the 14th however it could be as late as Wednesday the 16th due to possibly having to move teacher desks, materials, and student desks from the HS to the 2nd level of Peakview. 

This engineer’s report will help guide administration and board members as to implementation of the alternative plan of which will be:

1\. All HS classes will be moved to the second floor of Peakview

2\. Jr High classes will remain in the West Wing building



This is a very fluid situation. Our decisions will be guided by the engineer's report as to the condition of JMHS being habitable or not.

Thank you for understanding and your patience. We will let you know the District's plans as soon as we are able.
