Huerfano School District RE-1 is fortunate to participate in the USDA sponsored After School Snack Program. All district students grades K-12.are offered a daily afternoon snack at no cost to the students. Also we are the proud recipients of the Live Well Huerfano County/ District One Salad Bar Grant for Gardner School and John Mall High School. With these grants, Huerfano RE-1 has been able to provide a salad bar at lunch in Gardner every Wednesday as well as we will begin offering a salad bar at John Mall High School in the spring.
Huerfano Re-1 has a Wellness Policy in place to support and facilitate learning through good nutrition and physical activity, as well as offer support and resources for mental, social, and physical well-being. The Committee is made up of board members, administrators, the school nurse, food service management, school counselors, teachers, parents, students and community members. There will be quarterly meetings to discuss current programs, implement new plans and monitor policy compliance. We invite everyone to attend and share their ideas how to promote and develop lifelong wellness behaviors.
